Wally
Meet Wally, a modular wall-mounted lightbox system for brand exposure or in-store communication etc. The system's modular approach makes it flexible to use and sustainable in terms of lifespan. Build the frame to fit the wall at your disposal today, and re-build it to fit your location tomorrow.
In response to market demand, Spennare sought to expand their product range to include a wall-mounted lightbox. They envisioned a modular system with intuitive, tool free connections capable of accommodating aluminum profiles with no post-processing. This approach would enable them to easily provide a wide array of frame dimensions, to meet client specifications.
The heart of the Wally system is undoubtedly the innovative “friction lock” interface, a solution meticulously crafted to fulfill the requirements. This feature enables profiles cut to any length to be fixed together in an effortless assembly without any tools. The operation is simple: the user opens the lever, inserts the desired frame section and then securely closes the lever.
After many years of having our own designers, we changed our strategy to using Catino as our in-house design team. Working with Catino is a true pleasure and proved to be the perfect solution, with several design awards won and many exciting projects in the pipeline.
Design process
The design journey of the Wally system posed several key challenges regarding light. We wanted to achieve uniform light dispersion within the frame while minimizing undesirable shadows and highlights, as well as minimizing light leakage at the joints. The refinement of the friction lock mechanism also needed extensive work to get it just right. This process of iterative prototyping, testing, and revising the design was conducted in close collaboration with Spennare and their suppliers.
